Privacy Policy

Effective September 30, 2026 · Applies to the MileBack iOS app and mileback.app

In short: MileBack uses your location and motion data to detect and record your drives. Your trip history is stored on your iPhone. We don't sell your location data, we don't require an account, and you can delete your data at any time.

1. Who we are

MileBack ("MileBack", "we", "us") is operated by Balanced Answers Unipessoal LDA, Portugal. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us about privacy at info@mileback.app.

2. What we collect

MileBack does not ask you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email or phone number to use the app.

We do not collect your payment card details — Apple handles all payments. We do not upload your trip history or routes to our own servers.

3. How we use your data

We do not use your trip history or location to target ads to you, and we do not build a profile of where you go.

4. Legal bases (EEA and UK users)

5. Who we share data with

We share personal data only with service providers that help us run MileBack, under contracts that limit how they may use it:

We may also disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets (in which case this policy will continue to apply). We never sell your location data or trip history.

6. Tracking and advertising

MileBack asks for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency before accessing your device's advertising identifier. If you tap "Ask App Not to Track", we do not access it. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

7. How long we keep data

Keep your own copies of your mileage reports. Tax authorities may ask you to produce records for several years, and because your trip history is stored on your device, we cannot recover it for you.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Because MileBack has no accounts, most of your data is already under your control on your iPhone.

To make a request, email info@mileback.app. See Delete my data for step-by-step instructions. We respond within one month. If you are in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority — in Portugal, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD); in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

9. U.S. state privacy rights

If you live in California or another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Where you allow tracking, sending device identifiers to advertising partners to measure ads may be considered "sharing" — you can opt out by denying or turning off tracking as described in section 6, or by emailing us. Precise location is used only to provide the app's core features. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

10. International transfers

We are based in the European Union and some of our providers are in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, we rely on adequacy decisions (including the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified) or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Security

Trip data is protected by your iPhone's built-in security and encryption. Data held by our providers is protected with industry-standard safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your device protected with a passcode.

12. Children

MileBack is intended for adults who drive for work. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete any related data we hold.

13. This website

mileback.app does not use advertising cookies or trackers. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.

14. Changes and contact

We may update this policy. If changes are significant, we'll let you know in the app or on this page before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
